An old reel-3D writeup reprint also says the fan is stronger in the TDC,
but it also goes on to say that the Triad's the quiet most of the projectors.
Two ways of looking at it. :-)

As I recall the TDC has a smaller air "exit" so perhaps the volume of air
is the same, but needs less velocity with the larger exit in the Triad ?

Good point. Something I've wanted and definitely a weakness in the Triad.
One of the negatives for having a steel carriage! But then (back to
practicalities) how many people actually use 7P ?

Yes. I like and use it. Not a biggie, but handy sometimes.

Without doubt, TDC's are the more popular unit. It sold for $170 while
the Triad went for $230 "back then". TDC's also came out first by
quite a bit. The Triad was the TDC's first competitor.

It's for club use where the NEED for a triad is strongest. That's where
one gets a mix of different slide mount types (to cause jamming). That's
also where one may be "forced" to focus "real-time" (the rear-mounted focus
control of the Triad is much more accessable to the projectionist, and
for that matter, the side mounted vert/horiz control is more accessable
as well).

The most significant advantage for the home user is that he/she who uses metal
masks for mounting can preview it projected still naked-in-the-mask when
thinking about whether to put glass on it. With metal masks going away, this
may be less and less significant. I still like it's kid-gloves approach
to slide handling though. :-)

Not that I'd really mind replacing my Triad with a Brackett dissolver projector.... :-)
