Peter H. Coffin writes about his "deal of the week":
>This afternoon, I walked into my local photo store and asked Chris
>(employee there, and one of the four stereo photographers on the east side
>of Milwaukee) if there was anything interesting around. He disappears into
>the back of the store and comes out with a TDC Project-or-view, complete
>with manual, one pair of cheap polarizing glasses, and functioning bulbs.
>Asking price: $125.
and he comments:
>(this) story illustrates why customer loyalty pays off for the customer
>too...
Does that mean that if I had walked in the same store half an hour earlier,
they would not have sold me the Project-or-View or would have asked $250
for it? I don't see the connection with customer loyalty.
When I hear stories like this I cannot help but think that every time
someone gets a good deal from a dealer, there is someone else (usually the
original owner of the equipment) that got a bad deal. How much do you
think the owner of the TDC got paid for it?
The issue is complicated... The dealer needs to make a profit to be
motivated and provide the service of digging out the good stuff that is
unused and distribute them to people who can use it. But when the "old
lady" tries to sell her husband's Realist, she really depends on the dealer
to tell her what it is worth. If the dealer offers $10 for it and gets it
and then sells it to me for $75, everybody gets a good deal except for the
original owner who should be getting the biggest piece of the pie, IMO.
BTW, I buy all my stereo stuff from photo-dealers. And I am frequently
amazed on the deals that I get...
>Now all I need is a screen...
The Project-Or-View is mainly used with the built-in screen.
Harry Poster recently posted some tips on cleaning and adjusting this
projector.
Have fun! -- George Themelis
