I thought this might be of interest to some of the readers of P3D,
and it does overlap the P3D charter:

We (NIST) are co-hosting a 1-day technical workshop, Display Forum '97,
along with the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA). It will be
held on October 20, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The topic of the workshop
is displays (computer, HDTV, home theater, etc.), and it will cover
flat panel displays and CRTs (sorry, no photographic film technology).

There will be two parallel sessions in the morning -
one on display technology and display interfaces, and the other on display
measurement. There will be an afternoon discussion session, in which we
will attempt to determine the future of displays, and what can be done to
prepare for that future. We have a good collection of speakers lined up
from industry, from government, and hopefully will have some from universities.

3D displays (for example computer 3D displays and home theater displays) are
considered to be very relevant to the future, and are therefore within the
scope of this workshop. At the moment there are no 3D display talks on the
schedule, but there is room for one, and if a number of people with interest
in display 3D attend, there would be an excellent opportunity to bring up
this topic in the afternoon discussion session.

If anybody is interested, there's a description of the workshop on
VESA's web page: http://www.vesa.org
and specifically on http://www.vesa.org/df97.html
 with sub-pages http://www.vesa.org/DF97p1.jpg
 and http://www.vesa.org/DF97p2.jpg

This is a professional workshop, but attendance is open. Any proceeds from
the registration fees will go to VESA (a non-profit organization).
VESA has included provisions for stereo displays in a number of its recent
standards, so there is already a level of interest in this topic.
If anyone wants more information, please contact me, and I'd be happy to
discuss it offline.
