I frequently pull apart RBT glass mounts to scan the film. For me
the challenge is to put the film back in precisely the same
precision window placement that I achieved in the first mounting.
The trick I use is to scratch the top of the film (at perforations)
and the black RBT mount with a sharp pin. This leaves an alignment mark
on both. When I remount I just match the scratch marks and the slide is
again perfectly mounted in seconds.
YMMV
