Your last post, gave quite a bit of food for thought! I'll have to
investigate the rest of your story, but part of your alibi doesn't
hold up and may cause to break this case wide open!
As Marvin Jones points out, the "notch" is on the lower right image
and not on the lower left image. Now just to elaborate, since this
gets more confusing than a Rubiks Cube, the notch (u) is illustrated
below.
-----------------------------------------------------

If you were taking a picture of a big 6, it would appear upside down
as the digit 9, as viewed by the back of the camera/film. Turning
the whole roll of film right side up, it is back to a 6 but now the
notch is on top left. The image is now on the left side and has to
be transposed (by cutting the slide film) back to the right side
for parallel viewing. Likewise for prints, to determine which print
is the right one, just match it up with the top left (right image)
notch on the roll of negative film (as you have mentioned also).

I think the ambiguity might be explained by the notch mix-up above.
So the images are indeed L-R-L as you mention and no images got reversed
to R-L-R. Another comment is that, not all of your initial images were
L-R-R, only a few were. The rest were in their correct placement (L-R-L).
