That's an example of something I've observed about 'antiques' in general,
including cameras of all sorts, radios, and just about anything.

Popular price-guides tend to be correct due to it's self-correcting
mechanism of dealers setting the sales price *by* the book. 

The book becomes the setter of prices, rather than the observer
and reporter of prices (even if that's the honest intent).
