front surface mirrors, distance
Hi!
Thanks to everyone who replied to my first post! I'm beginning to get
the picture :-) on how to do stereo photography!
I'm thinking of starting out with the Porter adapter, which at $25.95
seems the best bargain. I suspect at that price it doesn't have
front-surface mirrors. I might go for a higher-priced one if it isn't
_too_ much more--at least I know another question to ask! I've been using
mostly an 85mm lens on my SLR--Porter says that's fine--am I going to run
into any problems? (Reel 3D says their adapter, which also uses
non-front-surface mirrors at twice the price, isn't good beyond 55mm
focal length.) I can go to a 50mm if that's better. I also like to shoot
closeups, but 2 1/2-3 ft. seems to be the limit for the adjustment on
Porter or Reel 3D either one--maybe the 85mm will do the trick here. Both
Porter and Reel 3D sell stuff for slides, but Reel 3D said not to use
their adapter for slides because of the mirror quality.
I've gotten no info on the Pentax adapter yet--maybe it uses
front-surface mirrors, or prisms? From what I've heard it should have
prisms for its price! :-)
It looks like an expensive viewer if I want to look at the slides without
cutting them apart--cheap if I'm willing to remount them (wanted to avoid
that!)!
I've gotten no answer from a Usenet poster who was selling a Miida stereo
outfit--at $550 it should have had a 2X2 pair viewer and a beam splitter
with top grade prisms and adjustments down to 6 inches from the subject!
