If *all* of the objects in your photos are soft, and if you can
eliminate motion blur or camera shake as possible causes, it sounds like
you need to have someone look at your camera.

When these cameras were new, Kodachromes film speed was such that even
in full sunlight, the exposure tables had folks shooting at f/6.3, and
full shade would get you to wide open. A properly adjusted Realist 3.5
or Kodak will give better than acceptable results (certainly in the
center) even at full aperture. I have seen many a period realist photo
shot at these apertures, and they are plenty sharp to the eye. My own
cameras are fine wide open...
