As a beginner I've ruined some nice images in the learning process.
Trial and error has helped me develop a mounting process I'm comfortable
with. First, I slip a pair into an Albion mount. I
play with the window, moving the chips in and out and checking. (this is
the best part of 3-D
IMO....playing with the window) Once I'm satisfied with the window, I
place the mount over reel 3-d alignment guage and check my reference
points ( especially the left edge of the left chip) I transfer the left
chip first to a heat seal or a spicer making sure I align that chip to
the same reference points on the left side edge.
Make sure you select a horizontal and vertical
point to reference to avoid rotational error. Once my left chip is in
place, I can still move my right chip around and I know I have the play
to
select a proper window. The biggest mistake I've made is to secure a
chip permanently without checking first, only to find out that I don't
have the play to move the second chip where it should be, and ruining
the image to undo the mount. Sure it takes me two hours to mount a
roll.....about the same time it takes me to type
this post.....but I enjoy it! (not the typing) :-) :-)
