The history of motion picture production is
replete with announcements of new 3D
technology that is more hype than fact. The
idea being to bring people into the theater with
the promise of something that turns out to be
much less.
Cinerama promotions at the time were like
this.
For those who are interested, pick up some
Pulfrich glasses and watch television. Some
sequences where a camera is looking at a
scent passing in from of the lens; such as a
moving shot out of a car window, where the
scenery passes by is a good candidate for
stereo perception.
If you watch programs where sports scores or
stock tickers scroll across the screen, a stereo
effect can be observed. If you watch static on
the TV with a dark filter over one of your eyes,
the static will occasionally appear in layers.
If you hang your movie camera out of a car
window and shoot some footage of a passing
scene, you are capturing left and right pairs
because the image is constantly shifting. So,
true stereo can exist in this situation. Does
anyone disagree with this?
After all, one frame captures an image and
several frames later, a different perspective is
also captured as well.
Just a thought, and I welcome comments on
this.

PS: I apologize for not remembering the URL,
but I recently received some information from
a company that offers High end software to
create stereo images from 2D images. The
software was 3,500.00 or so and you could not
use it commercially without paying a royalty.
Your licence limited you to private
non-commercial use.
It required a quad processor PowerPC with a
minimum of 32 or 48MB (I forget which) per
processor.
