I've always been in digest mode so I know about not replying to the whole
digest. I copy the text I want to reply to into a new mail message. I then
have to put something in the subject line or it's blank. It's an easy habit
to get into.

Part of the point of my reminder is for others to not quote the digest
number as the thread of a discussion progresses.

As people start using and repeating digest numbers in the subject line it
starts to look like it might be acceptable. Instead it's just confusing.
