Very well put. I have always wondered about this aspect, regarding
the UV output of fluorescents, especially when I see my plastic
translucent cover on my kithcen under the cabinet lamp turn from white
to a funny yellow color after a few years. Since light tables also
include a similiar plastic cover, this would provide another layer of
protection. (no, I am not talking about the other kind of protection).

Now what I find funny, is the ban on mercury batteries. This is funny
because just as many fluorescent bulbs (I think) were consumed and the
batteries probably had much less mercury than fluorescent lamps. Yes,
for those who are unaware of this, fluorescent lamps have mercury.

On another related topic, how about the UV from halogen lamps? Heck it
seems the only alternative is to go back to the 50's style bulbs or
maybe even candddle power!

Gabriel safe and sound, in the dddark.
