The following appeared to get diverted off, so here it is.
If it's a dup, thousands of apologies...

|
|I am far from an expert, but I have worked with some.
|
|At midrange to highend, the 90's lens will be made from superior optical
|materials and use a more sophisticated design than the lens from the
|fifties. BUT, the 90s lens is also more likely to offer a wider
|aperture setting, which, if you don't need it, can contribute to reduced
|contrast at reduced aperture settings.

|
|Reality is approximated by collecting and correcting the image in a
|manner consistant with scientific and engineering principles. However,
|artists do not necessarily use such an approach, since art has creative
|freedoms not appropriate for scientific or engineering work.
|
|Do keep in mind Picasso's standard.
|
|Any artist having mastery of their medium can depict a cow that looks
|like a cow.
|
|I also agree with if you want a snapshot, take a snapshot. ie. this is
|a hobby and your are not required to conform to anyones standards.
|
|My two bits, please no flames.
|
|Bias: I am an engineer who works with scientists <grin>
