I met someone at Yosemite Park who, in retrospect, must have been Adams.
I was carrying a 120 type camera which was half a step above a box
camera; he had a 120 camera also, I think a Rolleiflex. He helped
my wife, our two young kids, and me with advice on how to climb
Lembert Dome, then, as we were admiring the view, gave me some
hints on the best light at various times of day. A very gracious
person.
I happen to have read his first book on photography. In it I
remember he says that a beginning student doesn't need a really
large camera, an 8x10 is adequate.
