I don't know about you, but my wife won't go for me setting up my Computer
in our Living room. See further below.

I didn't mean that one COULDN'T make one, but are millions and millions of
people *doing* that which you suggest every year? I suspect that it's
NOT a popular format for current day photographers.
I *do* think you have mentioned a fun thing to do once in a while!

Who's capital investment? Mine? I don't want to do that. That's
for others to do. I just want to spend as little as I can on the
camera. Even that'll become obsolete soon and I'll have to make
*another* "investment". :-)
The current film-based P&S "solution" has by far and away the smallest
capital cost requirement for users in their mid to short term outlook.
Zero money is required for the viewing device.

It's that I don't believe that in one's home (place of social events) that
people will have their PC at the center of their gathering. Not
currently. This is where photo's are normally shown (the gathering
points). I don't think the PC is "there" in most cases. Purely my
WAG based upon where my computer is and where the computers of family
and friends are located.
The HDTV idea isn't so much for technical reasons, but that it
would be located at a social gathering point in people's homes.
Also, it may be something that's already gotten for other reasons,
so it'd be something to leverage off of.

P.S. - Another alternative would be the day when large-screen wide-angle
goggle-compatible laptops become very inexpensive and commonly used
as one's home computer (and home computers increase their household
penetration even further). Maybe with a built in DVD-RAM disk drive.
Don't think this will be soon either.
