The second 3D event at Orange County (NY) Community College will
be held on November 4, 1997. Sponsored by the Psychology and Sociology
Department, the Arts and Communication Department, the OCCC Educational
Foundation and the Lyceum (public events program) of the College, the
day will include learning events and public presentations.

Keynoters are Simon M. Bell, President of Bell Production
Services, Ltd. (BPS) of Toronto, and William A. Duggan, A.P.S.A.,
National Stereoscopic Association Projection Consultant. All events are
free, however a voluntary contribution is asked to cover part of the
cost of the use of a restored movie theater for the evening multimedia
lecture/show (our campus theater is undergoing unanticipated delays in
renovations.)

Of special interest to beginners in stereo photography is a
presentation by Bill Duggan "An Introduction to Stereo Photography."
Someone on P3D wrote before the Bellevue Convention last July, that it
would be good for "newbies" to have an opportunity to learn from
experienced stereo photographers. Here is such an opportunity for
anyone within reasonable distance of Middletown, NY. Bill's session is
from 2 to 3 p.m., in the Paramount Theater, which can seat 1,200. We
really don't expect that many, but the resource is there.

I have encouraged students in the introductory psychology course
sections to take their own stereo photos with makeshift rigs as a way to
illustrate the principles of depth perception. They are learning by
doing and by writing explanations of what they have done. Along the way
some of them may develop a keen appreciation for 3D imagery.
Other students have the option of learning about 3D viewing systems, so
that they can host an exhibition of samples of 3D equipment and
productions, including computer graphics, stereograms, antique views,
Viewmaster projection, pulfrich video, VRex projection video,
holography, Internet on line 3D, and photo essays by students. All of
their work will be presented in an after-school program for the public,
especially secondary students and younger school children.

The exhibition hall will be open in our College Gallery from 3
to 5:30 p.m. on Election Day.

To cap the day, Simon will speak about his work and present a
twelve projector show, "Fresh Perspectives: Stereographic Work and
Play." The program will start at 7:30 p.m. in the Middletown Paramount
Theater. Bill will show a program, "Welcome to NSA 1998, Richmond,
Virginia."

The invitation is open... I hope to see some of you on November
4th at this event.

	Stuart Stiles, Professor of Psychology
