I was tempted to post when the discussion was on about if a perfect
digital stereo camera existed everybody would buy it.
I refrained because I thought everyone was aware of the following:
Stereo is _not_ 3D.
It is but one aspect of many that allow us to perceive space.
There are many more:
Motion of objects
Motion of the viewer
The time it takes for something to move
We can _touch_ things and move them around
Sound
Weight
...
All of these aspects are normally absent if we present a stereoscopic
image. Therefore it is perfectly normal for a person to get a headache
in such a situation. This can't be cured no matter how good the picture,
the mounting, glasses or whatever.
The reason most of us don't get a headache is simply that we are trained
to see stereoscopic pictures without the other aspects of
3-dimensionality. And it are aspects, not just hints.
Some of them are even more important than stereo, certainly motion is.
E.g. you _never_ get a cardboard cutout effect if you watch an animation
of a rotating object, but a good perception of its form.
The reason I take stereo images is because it is the only means by which
I can capture true-life space, not that it captures space in any
near-perfect way.
This much on account of people who don't have stereoscopic vision :o>
