Knoxville 3D

Knoxville's '3D Show and Tell' held October 5 provided an excellent
survey of 3D. (Sorry for the delay in reporting).
Michael Kaplan projected several historic ViewMaster reels of
wildflowers taken by William Gruber, inventor and founder of
View-Master. Reels shown were original 1946 issue. The 50 year old
Kodachromes were sharp and vivid.
Dr.Lee Martin, founder of IPIX (formerly OmniView), demonstrated a
prototype 3D virtual reality device (as previously reported on P3D by
Michael Kaplan). This innovation displays 3D views of a scene in any
direction: 360 degrees around plus up and down.
John Fairstein displayed his reflection, rainbow and moving multiplex
holograms, and projected a selection of his Realist slides.
Other 3D items of interest included Albert Lin's 3D Photomaster glasses,
anaglyph posters of cities, embossed National Geographic hologram
covers, and stereograms. Ed Fairstein brought a paper describing dynamic
re-writable photopolymers for holography
Also shown were a complete selection of RBT mounts and literature.
Special thanks to Jon Golden of RBT and Reel-3D for providing samples
and catalogs.
