Stereoscopy in optometry

I had an eye doctor appointment today to see what could be done
about my troubles reading the dials on my Realists and seeing the
images on the focus screens of my twin TLRs. This led to some
discussion of photography with the eye doctor, which of course led
to 3D. Along the way he mentioned that specialized stereo cameras
are being used to evaluate the degree of "cupping" of tissue around
the optic nerve in glaucoma cases. Although he said the 3D was
much better suited to the task, he admitted he could not justify
the cost of the device for his practice.
