Sorry Dr.T, you'd better check your viewers. I think your refering to
Serial No.2 regarding Alan's fine Achromatic viewer, not the
freeviewer. But granted the freeviewer did come in a wooden case also,
at the time. Just to set the record straight! ;-)

On a related note, regarding the discussion about antique vs. modern
type viewers, other than the achromatic viewers, surprisingly the
best viewer for prints is a pair of $5 reading glasses. Most people
know that they help in "freeviewing" but another advantage is that
they have practically (none that are readily discernable by me) no
chromatic abberations. Of course not all are created equal, but the
pairs I have and one specifically which is 4 diopter works great.
This is more than I can say for most other type of traditional simple
lens viewer, modern or antique. Other advantages are a much larger
portion of the print is viewable and no viewer to hold. This makes it
easier and faster to go through alot of stereo prints.

P.S. For those that might try viewing prints using reading glasses,
please note that it is an aid to free-viewing. So if you can't
free-view, you will have to practice it before chucking those
traditional Holmes viewers.
