For San Francisco Bay Area residents:
The Art of John Cederquist: Reality of Illusion
Sept. 13-Nov. 30, 1997.
California artist John Cederquist's playful, trompe l'oeil furniture
pieces blur distinctions between reality and illusion with a magician's
flair. The lively works are capable of acting like functional furniture,
but in fact are backdrops for a virtuoso display of optical tricks,
cartoon-like drawings and an artful confusion of skewed perspectives.
Not photo-3d, but definitely of interest to those interested in how the
third dimension is presented. You really have to see Cederquist's work
to appreciate it -- it's a fantastic play on perspective and space. His
pieces are like 2 1/2 dimension versions of fanciful furniture. Highly
recommended!
