Not entirely true. I have some relatives who are of the family-tree
research activist types. That box of everyday pictures may be worth
it's weight in platinum to some yet to be born great (great....) grand
child with such an interest.
Hand it down in the family, generational attic to attic for a century
or two. At some point it'll be quite interesting.
If I came across a box of stereo pictures (tintypes?) of my great
great great great great great (etc) grandfather/mother, I'd think it
really neat. Even 2D ones would be neat.
So perhaps not "commercial" in a literal sense (selling copies), but
that future person would probably pay the storage fee.... :-)
