I think your Kodak has 35 mm lenses and not 28 mm and this appears to be
close to what is accepted to be the "normal" lens for this size of image
(roughly 24 mm square - has diagonal of 34 mm) Note that it is not the
size of the film but the size of the image that you are looking for.
When I did the same thing ("then and now" shots from Athens) I was
surprised by how well the images matched. But I was using a 50 mm lens in
an SLR camera. The 50 mm lens is accepted as a normal lens for the 24x36
format (diagonal is 43 mm) but it is longer than normal for the 24x24
stereo Realist format. So, your observation is correct. What you need is
regular stereo camera with 50 mm lenses.
