I recently purchased a very inexpensive scanner (Artec SCANROM 4E) that is
capable of scanning both photo prints (4x6) and slides (multiple formats). I
was looking for a way to scan in Realist format slides without removing them
from mounts AND without spending a lot on a scanner plus the usually
optional slide adapter. It cost me about $100 on Auctionboard (there always
seem to be about 4 or 5 being offered by some distributer).
You can read about it at

There is also an Artec company web site which I can't find the URL for right
now. I have been happy with the scanner so far. Its easy to install -
shares your printer port. Image editing software is provided but I didn't
bother loading anything except the TWAIN driver since I use Photoshop and
Corel. My main purpose was to get some Realist slides scanned to play with
the Apec Photomaster 3D LCD shutter glasses system. A few examples of
results from this scanner are on my website at
http://idt.net/~osadcil9/3-d.html
Of course, you'll need to be shutter glasses equipped or it looks terrible!
I'll be happy to answer any questions about how this scanner is working for
me. And, I have no association with Artec and am not selling or endorsing
their products...
Walter
