Re the below....
The price of slide/negative scanners seems to be dropping to a more
reasonable $500. Perhaps now it is the time for me to buy one.
I have had a Nikon Coolscan II for some time now, MAGIC, having
about 15,000 transparencies (Local History, Scotland, Folklore) and wanting
to use them on my PC in publications and Web use (see site) I lashed out.
It cost an arm-and-a-leg back then, but now I would not be without it now.
It takes transparencies, you post them into it's slot, and using
a carrier (provided) Negatives.
It has a TWAIN driver so you can call it up from any Image editing
program, I use Paint Shop Pro.
The resolution on it is astounding, a 35mm at full scan makes a
Windows bitmap of 16 million colour file of 29 meg and it is 3888 * 2592
pixels in size.
