P3D silver screens

I don't know the answer, but I suspect at least some of them were. Early
projectors were likely fairly dim, and a "silverized" surface would have
been a simple way to boost reflectivity. Early movie theaters were also
long and narrow, thereby reducing the problem of off-axis light falloff
from a highly reflective surface.
