Since Dr. George has invoked my name I am constrained to enter into this
discussion.
When I first got active in 3D photography I wanted to do it all at once.
Prints, slides, viewers, projectors, all of it. Reading the traffic here
helped me focus. Using the sell-3D helped me fine- tune my ideas of what
equipment I need. I have it now. Personally I have a camera and a back
up, access to a projector and a couple of viewers for prints and slides.
I limit myself to one format now, I mount my own prints and I send my
slides to Target. Through target I get nicely mounted (by Kodak) slides
and developing for my 24 exp kodachrome. All for only $4.29 plus the
Mike Brown/Bengals retirement tax. I mount my best pictures in Mr.
Golden's delightful RBT mounts.
My enthusiasm has not waned, but I have just about got it in perspective.
And I'm getting better pictures now that I'm not trying to force it so
much. One of the things that drew me to the vintage cameras was the more
gracious pace that took me back to my early Argus C3 days. Even the 3
week turn around for my slides doesn't bother me.
I think the trick is balance, just like it is in everything else, some of
this, some of that and some more of some other damned thing.
Mark seems like a pretty busy fellow, I have to admit. I got a little
tired just reading his schedule. But 3D photography fits in with most
other activities. I take some pretty good pictures when I go to trade
shows, I offer couples I marry a few free 3D pictures of their nuptials,
I keep a camera at the office in case something interesting happens (a
film company making a KFC commercial descended on the town a couple weeks
ago, and I think I have some good shots from that. Rabbit Hash rarely
sees such excitement).
As far as keeping up with the list, well, that gets easier as time goes
on. You learn to recognize and delete topics which hold no interest for
you. You also learn to recognize the frequent beating of dead horses
and, again, utilize that delete finger. I can sometimes get through a
Monday accumulation of 3D mail (usually fifty to sixty messages) in a
very short time.
