P3D Curious eye defect

Regarding Jim Norman's stereo perception:
Thanks, Jim, for an illuminating discussion of what is, to me at least, a
fascinating aspect of 3-D. It demonstrates that "ortho" stereo is
absolutely a relative thing. I'm always a little bit surprised that 3-D
photographers aren't more interested in the nature of perception itself
and the hardware in our heads used for sight. The human eyes are the
original camera! But the interpretation of that optical data and it's
"fusion" into the cyclopean stereo image, that's another area entirely.
Most of the time, stereo photographers are so involved with the
quantitative aspects of the craft (shutters, lenses, slide/print mounting,
projection) and trying to replicate "normal" 3-D vision (as if there were
such a thing) that the qualitative mystery of the stereo image is
overlooked.
