I certainly appreciated the folks at Pixar (presumably) taking the trouble
to provide true stereo pairs by simply shifting the viewpoint of a still
composition - since they used a huge Viewmaster in the cinema lobby display
I wouldn't have expected anything less! Sure would've been nice if they
had done the same with stop motion films like Wallace & Grommit or
'Nightmare Before Christmas'.
On 2D to 3D conversion - its a pity Disney can't float the cost of doing
this with their original animation artwork, especially considering their
hard work at giving it depth and substance. The VM versions always come
off crude by comparison. Look at the Japanese '3D Museum' book and imagine
that workmanship applied to Disney's 60 year film backlog!
