P3D Stereo Realist problem

Before contacting Ron Zakowski, I thought I'd run this problem past
knowledgeable list members to see if, indeed, I need Ron's repair.

I have a newly aquired 3.5 Realist that works fine in every respect, save one.
The locking mechanism on the film wind up spool isn't working. When I advance
the film, the transport stops/locks after the correct 10 perfs of transport,
but the wind knob does not lock. When I take my fingers off the wind knob, it
spins backwards. Typically, then, the film pops out of the slit in the spool
and I'm stuck (Yes, the A/R dial is in the A position.).

I guess I could tape the film onto the spool to get around the problem, or
even more absurdly, I could keep constant pressure on the wind knob,
throughout the shooting of the whole roll of film, to prevent the spooler from
springing backwards. But realistically, I'd like to cure rather than remedy
the problem.

Here's some more information that might help someone offering the cure. I
tried to figure it all out by comparing the locking mechanism in my 2.8
Realist, which is working perfectly, to that of the 3.5 Realist. Wouldn't you
know it! They are different. The 2.8 has a rod connection to a spring device,
and a gear attached to the top of the spool that is engaged someway by the
rod. All I see in the 3.5 is a rod. Are there pieces missing in the 3.5?
Should there also be a gear at the top of the spool, or is there really a
different means of locking the spool in this earlier 3.5 Realist (serial
#A10403)?

Like I said earlier, Zak will probably be contacted. Hope against hope,
though, I'm asking if there is there a quick fix for this problem, or is that
just wishful thinking on my part?
