I cheked the article I mentioned in digest 2501 in reply to Bob Sterns post
in 2500. It is from the UK Magic Lantern Society newsletter No 35 1993 I am
not shure if it is someones recent experiment or a reprint but it seems
recent.
Reading It again along with Bob Sterns article I can that they are closer
than I thought , there is no hole cut in the front screen so it is the same
as Bob describes but the rear one is an actual mirror . What made me think
there was a hole is that the diagram shows a circular image being projected
as is quite commom with lantern slides. The article is quite short so I
will quote it in full.
     "Sir
To project lantern slides so as to be shown in relief, at a recent
society meeting, an arrangement was roughly as shown in the
illustration, and it will be seen that the picture would be projected
through the screen and on to the mirror behind it. It, of course, may be
well known, but all of us present were startled to see how vividly each
picture showed in the mirror at back of the screen, and with what a great
amount of relief each figure stood out. The sheet gave the general effect,
but the mirror behind (quite an accidental placing) showed each picture as
in a stereoscope.-Yours, etc.,"

They seem to have discovered the effect themselves by accident but it
cannot be true stereo. P.J.Homer
