P3D New York Stereo Report

The New York Stereoscopic Society had its second meeting on Saturday,
keeping up the momentum from its inaugural with a total attendance over
100. We are now proud to boast 45-some members with many promised "checks
in the mail."
Leslie Fisher, from Ann Arbor, Michigan came to us courtesy of the World
Circumnavigators Society, (that is, the society for folks who have been
around the world.) He presented a "Glimpse of Tibet," which had many
gorgeous images of the land and the people. He eloquently delivered a live
narration over a soundtrack of traditional tibetan music, bringing into
focus the rich culture in contrast with the injustice, poverty, and
religious persecution under the occupying chinese. Les did a great job of
putting together a visually excellent, entertaining, and informative 3D
show. Favorite: an older tibetan man brewing a pot of tea with the steam
floating up and through the window.
P-3D's own Jon Golden came up from Boston, and brought along a wheelbarrow
full of RBT cameras and De Wijs viewer products, including the limited
edition milled aluminum VM viewer. It's beautiful, but it may set you back
a few. He presented "Black and White, Then and Now", which featured
excellent images, well sequenced with the Brackett Dissolver and
accompanied by a soundtrack of his own music. Highlights were a bridge
extending into the fog, and the creative transitions between images.
I was lucky to spend some time with Jon and his cameras over the weekend,
and even had some pictures done in time to end up in his show. The RBT
cameras are fine tools, but Leslie Fisher proved beyond a doubt that we can
squeeze greatness out of our 50-year old realists.
So, the next meeting will be in April or May, and there are a couple of
exciting things brewing for that, but we need our 45 or so members to start
telling us what they can bring to the group... I think we're well on our
way, and thanks especially to Greg Dinkins for continuing to be a great
driving force.
