Just saw and picked up the February issue of
"Camcorder" magazine. The top banner on the
cover is "True 3-D with your camcorder" with
a picture of 3-D Video Inc.'s Nu-View
adapter. The article was written by Preston
Gratiot (on P3D list??) and is fairly
informative, it even briefly covers the history of
stereoscopic imaging. Unfortunately the article
also reinforces the myth of anaglyphic movies,
although it doesn't specifically state that most
3-D movies were shown in that format. The article
also does not mention the Toshiba Camcorder.
The article confirms my expectation that the
adapter uses mirrors and an LC shutter (the
article incorrectly refers to the LC shutters
as "LCD" ) to alternate the left and right images
onto the camcorder lens. The adapter uses a single
AAA battery and it allows for convergence adjustment
so scenes can be are placed behind the window.
The video should be compatible with existing 3-D
LCS video systems, like Michael Stark's 3-DTV and VR
Surfer.
The magazine also sports a full page color ad for
the adapter on the inside back cover. The price in
the ad is $375.
All-in-all it looks great. This is a 3-D product that
we should consider supporting NOW, rather than waiting
for it to fail so we can get a close-out price :-)
