P3D good news about Qualex stereo processing!

I spoke to Earline Pearson this evening. She handles all stereo
processing at the Qualex Dallas facility. Here are a few points
that we discussed:

1) Dallas is the only Qualex facility that handles stereo processing.
The New Jersey facility will take over all direct mail customers
starting 19 January. She confirmed that they will do stereo processing
as we heard in the last photo-3d digest. I guess that there's
going to be no one at the New Jersey facility with stereo experience,
at least at the start.

2) That said, the stereo processing machines are still at Dallas and
haven't been shipped to New Jersey yet, so for the next week or so,
Earline will handle stereo slides in Dallas. You can call her to
check the status at (800) 365-5589 ext 4177 roughly 10 AM - 7 PM Central.

3) The stereo processing machines cut, align, and seal the slides, but
they still require a fair bit to be done by hand.

4) They average about 3 stereo processing orders per week. Although there
has been some discussion about cancelling this service, Earline thinks
they will continue this for the forseeable future.

5) Now here's the good news: Earline says that Qualex will gladly remount
bad stereo slides free of charge. She even offered to have one of my
bad slides picked up by Airborne Express and gave me the Qualex account
number. I'd be content to have them fix the bad slide with my next
order, but it's important to me that they stand by their work, or at least
claim to. I don't know what level of accuracy they would guarantee, but
I think any slide mounted pseudo should clearly fall under this guarantee.

I'll renew my request (my "modest proposal" of a previous digest) that
photo-3d
members who shoot Realist format should please give some of their business to
Qualex. If they mess up, then take advantage of their policy and have them
fix the slides for free! I would particularly encourage Gavin Stokes to
send back his roll that was mounted 100 percent in pseudo and get them
to remount it!

Qualex/Kodak Premium Processing is one of the most visible photo processing
services across the country. We don't want them to drop stereo, so we
should try to keep a steady trickle of orders.

best regards,

Emil Volcheck
