P3D Sarasota's 3-D Showcase and formats

Boris is right, we have all been rude for not commenting
on his improvement and expanded web pages. I also have
not found time to thank Dr. T for sending me a stereoscopic
test slide (Thank you George :-)). I think acknowledging
improved web sites is not seen as important to members of
the list, I received few comments when I announced the
greatly expanded Burning Man pages back in early October.
Of your new images I particularly like the computer graphic
and photo composite. At first I was going to complain that
the correct term is fairy rather than pixie, but a check of
the dictionary shows that pixie is a more general term which
includes small elf as well as fairy creatures. So I guess
pixie is acceptable, although a pixie with wings is a fairy.
On the anaglyph issue I suspect that virtually all the P3D
list members prefer viewing methods other than anaglyph. When
I urged you to include anaglyph it was because I believe it
addresses the novice audience. I think that we should make
our 3-D web sites accessible to as broad an audience as
possible. Therefore I'm not surprised that the anaglyph pages
have not been visited much. I don't know how you have publicized
or linked your site. If you were to have your site linked
to a more general audience source you might receive a higher
percentage anaglyph hits.
Here are the hit rates for my Burning Man 3-D pages for
October through today:
Anaglyph 486
Dual image 653
Interlaced 283
Note that my ISP has an unreliable hit counter and hundreds of
hits were lost, so these numbers are only rough estimates.
The anaglyph page is not directly linked to any other web site
that I know of. The dual image page (cross-eye, free view, JPS)
is linked from the VRex 3-D Expo page, the interlaced page is
linked from the Stereography Megazine web site. The main page
is direct linked to three or four Burning Man related web
sites.
One depressing thought is that people might chose the dual image
page because they aren't viewing in stereo at all, and simply want
to view the images flat, in that case the dual (free view) page
would be the most popular. :-( I hope that is not the case.
So bottom line, I enjoyed the new images and I applaud your
efforts to reach out to a broader audience.
