I think the DOF term becomes more obviously sensible if just one word
is added to make it DOTF: "Depth of the field". Field is the size/width,
and the visible (focused) depth of that field, is, well, "depth of (the) field".
Makes plain'ol sense to me. :-)

P.S. - The new 24" monitor (Trinitron technology, I can see the wires) is
magnificent, and not curved all that much, new attached computer
isn't bad either :-).
