P3D A few good men? - Part I

There has been some talk about how many people it takes to start a stereo
club and how hard it is to get people to participate and do some work.
I think Tom Martin said that he could not find 5-6 people willing to
work hard to start a stereo club.

Which brings two questions: How many people do you really need to start
and maintain a club? How hard do these people have to work?

>From personal experience in starting a club, actively participating in
another and reading club newsletters, etc., I have to say that you only
need two people to start a club (or even one, or one and a half) and that
the work to maintain the stereo club is not that hard!

Basically, you only need one person to start a club. A person who will
take it upon him or herself to organize the activities of the first meeting
and make sure that people show up. It is nice to have two people to split
some jobs or give feedback and help each other.

Once the club is started, there isn't all that much work required from
meeting to meeting. Most clubs list the following officers: President,
Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer. These are "titles" more than work
assignments.

The real work assignments usually listed as committees. For
example, a mature club like the Chicago Stereo Camera Club, lists 4
officers and about 20 committee members. But really there is not much
work required from meeting to meeting for most "officials". Some
of them only have to work during the meeting ("Projectionist")
others like "Historian", "Social" or "Hospitality" might have a
natural inclination to doing the little bit they are required to do.

A more important question than "where do you find the few good 'men'
willing to work hard?" is "how can you get people to attend the meetings?
