A formal organization involves more work, mainly a newsletter. It's enough
to arrange a decent program and get mailings out four times a year (if we
had a crazy 3D fanatic, however...) Amazingly we get the largest showing of
any group I know of~ generally 80-100 people! (Thanks to Dick Koolish, we
have an excellent meeting space... Jon Golden usually arranges the programs
and handles projection... David Berenson does the mailings of show
announcements.)

We don't have competitions (who needs the pressure and it's so subjective!)
but we informally project attendee's slides at the end, with snide comments
from the audience!
