>Now, the big question is... What's a Lipmann's projection system?

G.Lippmann is the one that coined the phrase "integral photography", an
almost holographic stereo process that resembles looking through a window,
and uses no glasses. The difference between an integral photograph and a
stereo view is that you can move and look behind an object in space, where a
stereo shot is from a fixed vantage point.
The process is rather complex, starting off with a plate composed of a large
number of very small lenses which form microscopic images on a
light-sensitive layer. No other camera is used, as the plate itself is the
camera.
Further improvements to the process involving faceted mirrors on a layer of
'grease", produced an image that would float in space.

If this sounds a little too far feched and incomplete, it's because I
haven't fully grasped the concept myself, but it was apparantly demonstrated
in 1911, by Russians.

Those interest may want to look for "Stereoscopy" by Valyus, an incredible
book that was written by Russians during the peak of the Cold War. Lots of
cool propaganda in there!
