The point of the patent is that if someone else comes up with the same
idea, the patent holder holds the right to the idea.  So, if another
party comes up with a slick product, great manufacturing processes and
fantastic advertising based on this patent, the patent holder gets
something for it.

So, if you're planning on a 3D adapter for your SLR using fiber optics
and corrective lenses (aka patent number whatever), make sure your
device is somewhat different in its approach, patent YOUR idea and make
a bundle.  Either that or share your bundle with the patent holder.

Of course, you could wait until his patent runs out and then market your
product!
