P3D Iron Alternatives

Where I used to work ( a photo stock house) we had a heat sealer for 35mm
slides that resembled a pair of vise-grip plyers with a split square
heating element on the end that had a non-heating space the size of the
film chip. I used to use this to seal 3-d heat seal mounts. Because the
sealer was made for 35mm, I could only seal one side of the 3-d mounts at a
time. Also, because the non heating part was the size of a full frame 35mm,
I had to shift the mount from side to side to seal the edges. Even though I
had to shift and flip the mount, its still faster than using an iron.
Perhaps its possible that they make a heating block with a smaller non
heating part? I dont remember the manufacturer, but there was a guy from
New Jersey who used to sell nudie realist slides and also carried these
heat sealers. Maybe you could get a cheapie used one at a photo show or
camera store....Mike
