P3D Roll your own View-Master projector... ?

Would it be possible to make my own viewmaster projector
out of two of the toy viewmaster projectors, duplicate reels,
and some kind of filter to put over the lenses of the projectors?
My guess is that the projected images wouldn't be sharp enough for
this to work. Has anyone ever tried this?
