P3D Focus adjustment question

Is this method of setting the focus of a stereo camera OK?

1.  Open the lens up to the widest aperature.
2.  Set the dial to the closest distance.
3.  Put a piece of ground glass into the film plane.
4.  Adjust the lens so the object at the distance on the dial is in
    focus.

Will infinity be in focus then, when I set the dial to infinity?

It seems that others start the other way around and make sure that
infinity is in focus, then hope that the closer things are in the
correct focus.

Any help would be appreciated.
