Many people consider RBTs superior to Albions, and they have many
good reasons for thinking so. RBTs are more durable, easier for
many people to learn to use, have very little risk of scratching
the image in the hands of a novice, don't have to be washed before
using, etc. And, AFAIK, RBTs have been free of major supply
disruption problems. Albions may be your favorite mount, and
there are many good reasons for you and others to choose them.
But they are not for everybody.
Using 1/2 an RBT mount provides most of the many benefits of the RBT
mount system, the flexibility to choose thick or thin bevel window,
and a cost per mounted slide that is roughly equivalent to the cost
of Albions with cardboard foldovers.

The proposal was intended for the benefit of those for whom cost
of RBTs has limited their ability to utilize their preferred mount.
It's great that you don't have to worry about controlling the costs
associated with your hobby. Not all of us are so fortunate.
