I have not been satisfied with the halogen bulb in the following
ways:
1. High cost per bulb along with limited life of bulb. The first
two bulbs lasted less than 10 hours each.
2. The heat from the bulb distorted the reflector. After being
used for many slides and left on, the top of the viewer (red
button) became fairly warm.
3. Color - I would like to simulate daylight. I know I can use
a blue filter, but with the other problems if I can use a
flourescent bulb (cooler & longer lasting) and get the color I
want it sounds like the perfect fix.

My understanding is that the frosted halogen bulb requires viewer
modification? I would like to hear about your painted reflector
as my reflector is now distorted.
