Better clarify that this was LONG, LONG, ago... because some people
might be disappointed :-)

I alternate between 500W and 750W bulbs myself in my 116.  I have made
detailed light measurements and there appears to be very little difference
in light output between the two wattages (measurements were made with a
light meter at screen level).  In that respect, using 750 W bulbs might
not be worth the trouble (= extra heat).  The 500 W bulbs have proven
to be good enough for club audience of 50 people and a 70" screen.
Cleaning and aligning the projector elements is important too.

Sources for both bulbs:  Reel 3-D (their prices for a pair are in line
with other outlets), specialty light bulb places, camera shows or flea
markets.  Because these bulbs are not of much use for modern equipment
chances are that you could find them in new old-stock condition, priced
quite low.
