The contemporary award in the Lighthouse judging last weekend was given to a
computer-generated image, no part of which was created by the maker--- only
the manipulation was done by that person in order to create a stereo slide.
I hadn't heard about any movement to have separate competitions for
computer- generated images, but if the basic image comes from computer
software, maybe it's a good idea. My pet peeve, however, is the scanning of
a slide into a computer and then reprinting it as a card using poor
techniques. I have judged two card shows so far, and many of these copies
have a very unusual feature which resembles reticulation, very disturbing.
These are legal by PSA SD rules and, if well done so that they look like a
quality print, I wouldn't object. I question why anyone would prefer to show
the same identical image by copying
it, however.
