I saw a couple of prints of this type at a camera show a couple of years
ago. One was of John Wayne with a lit cigarette pouring out smoke, the
other was a pin-up. I liked the latter better. Both were about 8x10 or
bigger. I think they were going for $75 each.
A friend (who is an experienced large format photographer) once borrowed
my Nimslo and had an 8x10 print made, I think by Nimslo. It was an
architectural study on the Stanford campus, and I think it was at
least comparable to the John Wayne print. Part of its effect came from
a lenticule size that was the same (0.005 inches) as in the standard
small prints. The fuzziness in the large print was the same as in the
small print, but since the large print was held further from the eye,
the effect was of better resolution.
If George really would like to be immortalized, along with his Realist,
he would be welcome to drop over sometime. We could set up a couple of
floodlights, and take a nice formal portrait with the Nimslo. If his
wife is able to come along she and my wife could have a nice chat on
the problems with husbands of Greek heritage who are ardent
photographers. :-)
