P3D Globe Trotting With Dr. Sieg

Wow!
Just got back from this evening's meeting of Camera Rochester, where Dr.
Albert Sieg, FPSA presented his Wonders of Stereo program. What an
excellent program!
Presented with the Brackett Dissolver projector, the show consisted of
seven sequences, each themed in a different location and covering the globe
from the ice floes and harp seals of the Arctic to the chinstrap penguins
and icebergs of Antarctica. We travelled to the equatorial Kenya, where we
were face to face with cape buffalo, cheetahs, rhinos and more.
We even travelled through time (that makes 4-D) in a "then and now" look at
Japan between 1880 and 1980.
Another change of slides and we were in an Alaskan river side-by-side with
brown bears fishing for salmon. A few minutes later we soared above
Albequerque in a hot air balloon as part of the annual festival. Later
still we travelled to Sapporo for the Ice Sculpture festival.
I didn't check my watch, but I think the show was well over an hour long
(short). All slides were well narrated by Dr. Sieg, including background,
technical details and anecdotes about the various safaris. (The story of
the flat tire in lion country was *quite* amusing!)
Dr. Sieg apparently has a Sherpa accompany him on his safaris, as most of
his sequences included images captured with RBT, Realist and just about
every imaginable combination of focal length and interocular you could get
with a pair of SLRs.
"I need the 800 mm lenses and the six foot bar for this one" "Yes, Dr.
Sieg" "And you'd better bring the 35mm, 70 mm, 200 mm and 2500 mm lens
sets as well, we may need them, and both RBTs" "Yes, Dr. Sieg" :--)
I met several members of P3D who had seen my posting, and passed around a
hand viewer with a few of my slides after the projection was done.
Cool deal. All told, I think there were about a dozen stereophiles in the
audience. (At the start at least. Afterwards of course, everyone was a
stereophile!)
Best regards,
Bill Davis
