The display industry frequently uses the term "bezel" to refer to the
frame around the display area. In fact, my latest presentation includes
the term. Certainly within the industry it's not an "obtuse" term.

There's a school of thought that the public should be shielded from all
knowledge of the details and operation of the things around them ("Push
button - TV go on" :-), but more often I encounter the opposite problem -
the gizmo I bought is capable of doing what I want, but they didn't want
to confuse me by including that in the instructions.

Perhaps as a compromise the addition of a parenthetic phrase:
  "in contact with the bezel (edge of the visible display area)"
